The author is asking that the first thing he hear in the day be the goodness, love and grace of God. He asks God to instruct him in the way to live because he has placed his life in God's hands. What questions do I have about what it says? O What is God's lovingkindness? O What does it mean to lift up my soul? What does the text mean? The psalmist is imploring God to remind him of the kindness and grace of God first thing in the day that his faith in the Lord might be renewed. He begs God to make his path clear and reaffirms that he has trusted his life and eternal soul to God. How does the text apply to me? I am convicted about not always starting my day with God but also struck by the truth that I need Him to prepare me for the day. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will do it. Psalm 37:5   WHAT DOES IT SAY? The text instructs us to surrender our plans to God trusting that He knows and is capable of accomplishing His will. Not only that He is capable but willing to act on behalf of those who trust Him.   WHAT QUESTIONS DO I HAVE ABOUT THE TEXT? O What does it mean to commit? O How do we trust God?   WHAT DOES IT MEAN? To commit is to surrender and be fully invested. This is something done with complete buy in, putting all of our eggs in one basket. Trusting God is synonymous  with obedience. To trust God means to put weight on the promises of His Word and resting on it fully, not with one foot in the water. If we live a surrendered life, trusting God by obeying Him and living according to his purposes and desires we can have confidence that He will establish our path.   HOW DOES IT APPLY TO ME? Colossians 3:23–25 (NASB95): Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,  24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.  25 For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality. What does it say? Paul instructs is to do everything as if we were doing it for God. He says that we should have an attitude of excellence in our work because He is the one we are accountable to for what we do in life. God is a righteous and impartial judge, so we will reap the consequences of what we do.  What questions do I have about the text? Ephesians 5:15-17   What does it say? Paul is advising the church at Ephesus to be on guard about how they live knowing that our time on earth is short. Moreover, that the return of Christ is imminent so be alert and walk in the way of Christ.   What questions do I have about what it says? I give them eternal life and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. Jn 10:28 What does it say? Jesus is speaking to his disciples and tells the crowd listening to Him that he gives them life. This is in comparison to what the thief gives in Jn 10:10. Jesus contrasts the things that the thief gives with the abundant life He provides. Jesus qualifies the life he gives by saying that it is eterrnal. Those who receive life from Him will never die. Teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12 What does it say? This is a prayer asking God to teach the speaker to be aware of how short life is. The change in perspective gives one wisdom because it increases urgency and purposefulness in how we live. What questions do I have about what it says? O What does it mean to number our days? O How does numbering our days help one gain a heart of wisdom? What does the text mean? Psalm 90 is a reflection on the greatness of God. It extols the eternal attributes of God and contrasts it with the fleeting and finitness of man.
