Luke 16:13

Luke 16:13
No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and wealth.

What does the text say?
o  You can't be divided in your loyalty.
o Competing priorities and plans will make you miserable.
o You will need to cheat someone if you have more than one boss.

What questions do I have about the text?
o Does this mean I can't have money or be rich?
-This is a warning that uses a strong comparative. The choice is either to be mindful of worldly, short term priorities or to prioritize the kingdom priorities that have eternal impact.

What does the text mean?
o Choose to prioritize the matters of the kingdom over the matters of this world.
o Set Christ as Lord and give Him your yes before you give your yes to anyone else.
o Christians that try to straddle the fence are miserable. Moreover, those who are luke-warm will be spit out.

How does it apply to me?
o Submit all decisions to the Lord and consider the way your decision impacts the kingdom.
o Surrender all parts of your life to Christ. Don't hold anything in reserve as something that holds more influence than Jesus.
